Express: Reds still want Mkhitaryan

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains keen to recruit Shakhtar Donetsk's attacking midfielder star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Mkhitaryan's transfer saga looks set to continue, despite suggestions in Eastern Europe that Liverpool had agreed a £25m fee for the player.

While such reports may be premature, the Armenian international appears intent on moving and has already skipped pre-season training with Shakhtar this summer.

"There is nothing new about Mkhitaryan," Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin told Ukrainian publication Football.ua.

"I already have said that Borussia Dortmund offered €23million (£20m) for him; this was the sole offer. [But] our position is €30m (£25.5m).

"Mkhitaryan's contract does not specify a compensation payment. Thirty million dollars need to be paid to sever the contract unilaterally.

"If we go with the civilized way and sell a player but he severs the contract, we specify a transfer value of €30m (£25.5m)."

Dortmund, Liverpool and Tottenham are thought to be involved in a three-horse race for Mkhitaryan.
