Liverpool want to re-sign Xabi Alonso but face a battle with Chelsea to land the Real Madrid midfielder this summer. Alonso is out of contract in 12 months and Real are ready to cash in on the Spanish international before he can walk away from the Bernabeu on a free transfer. Former Real boss Jose Mourinho is keen to be re-united with him again at Stamford Bridge as he looks to strengthen his midfield. Real are holding out for a fee in the region of £10million and Rodgers will be hoping to use the cash raised from the sale of Jonjo Shelvey and Andy Carroll to fund a deal.
