AUTHOR: JOHN ALDRIDGE

Liverpool got their business done early on deadline day to complete a successful transfer window for the club.

There is no question that Brendan Rodgers' squad looks much stronger now than it did at the start of the summer.

The manager had been looking for another attacking threat from out wide and I think the loan signing of Victor Moses will prove to be very shrewd.

Moses is quick and skilful. His scoring record at Chelsea last season - 10 goals in 43 appearances - was decent considering he didn't start that often.

It's a similar scenario to when we signed Daniel Sturridge. Moses has come to Anfield with a point to prove after not getting game-time at Stamford Bridge. Moses has actually gone out on loan to a bigger club which doesn't happen often in football.

I'm sure sitting and watching Liverpool beat Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday will have put fire in his belly.

The Nigeria international will be relishing the prospect of pulling on the shirt and playing in that kind of atmosphere.

Moses will fit in well with the way we play and I don't think he will want to go back to Chelsea next summer.

We also strengthened our defensive options with the signings of Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.

Sakho didn't come cheap at £15million but he has a reputation as a no nonsense, commanding centre-back who isn't afraid to put himself about.

Ilori is obviously one for the future and I know from spending a lot of time in Portugal how highly he's regarded over there.

With those two coming in, I'm delighted Martin Skrtel stayed put. With Daniel Agger, Skrtel, Kolo Toure, Sakho and Ilori all competing for places, we certainly look well equipped to keep teams out.

The one player Rodgers didn't get was the goal-scoring attacking midfielder he had been after all summer.

We obviously went for a few different targets over the past few months but those deals didn't come off. However, I'm confident we've got enough depth to get through to January when I'm sure he will have another look at signing that type of player.

Just as important as the transfers we completed was ensuring we kept hold of Luis Suarez.

I've said before how brilliantly the club have handled the Suarez saga this summer and it was strong leadership to tell him he was going nowhere, and hopefully his goals will help ensure we get back into the Champions League.

With Suarez only two games away from completing his suspension, things are looking very promising as we will be an even better team with him in it.

I can see the sense in sending Fabio Borini out on loan to Sunderland.

The Italian striker hadn't featured for Liverpool so far this season and with the arrival of Victor Moses his chances of playing were going to be further reduced.

Hopefully Borini will benefit from playing regularly in the North East, score goals and come back a better player next summer.Team spirit strong at Anfield

There are only three games gone and we can't get carried away but it's always nice to see the club you are passionate about sitting on top of the tree.

It's been a great start to the season and a complete contrast to a year ago. Last season we were under pressure from the moment we lost at West Brom and were playing catch-up.

This time around we are setting the pace and the great thing is we haven't played anywhere near our best football yet.

I actually thought Sunday was probably our worst passing performance under Brendan Rodgers. We didn't keep the ball hardly at all in the second half.

But the fact that we didn't play well and still beat United made it all the sweeter.

Under Alex Ferguson, you knew you would have to play at your best to beat United. That's not the case anymore.

What really pleased me was how hard the players worked for each other. You can see that the team spirit is strong.

It was a big result for the club. Last season people kept on saying about how we hadn't beaten any of the top teams.

We have put that one to bed and that result should breed a lot of confidence.
