Echo: 'Let's roll our sleeves up and believe'

Steven Gerrard scored his first goal for England in over two years and then declared: 'Bring on  Ukraine'.

The Liverpool and England captain kick-started the national side's 4-0 win over Moldova on Friday night at Wembley with the opening goal of the game.

Gerrard, captaining the Three Lions for the 29th time, fired home from outside the area following Frank Lampard's neat lay-off to bag his first England strike since August 2010.

Friday's win saw Roy Hodgson's side leapfrog leaders Montenegro in qualifying Group H and put them in firm control of their own World Cup destiny.

But the stakes are even higher in tomorrow night's game in Kiev with the hosts just one point behind England in the table.

England drew 1-1 with Ukraine last September in a game which saw Gerrard sent off for two bookable offences.

But back among the goals and back on top of the table, the skipper is in bullish mood ahead of the game at the Olympic Stadium.

"We have nothing to fear and can go there full of confidence," said Gerrard.

"We need to believe in ourselves, roll our sleeves up and put in a performance because if we were to get all three points it puts us in the driving seat."

England will not be able to call upon the services of Gerrard's Liverpool teammate Daniel Sturridge however.

The 24-year-old has not travelled with the squad to Ukraine because of an on-going thigh problem.

Sturridge's absence has been compounded with Wayne Rooney sidelined and Danny Welbeck ruled out of the match through suspension.

Gerrard admitted on Friday night that he was keeping his fingers crossed that Sturridge would "pull through".

But England's striking problems mean that Kirkby-born Rickie Lambert is set for another cap.

The Southampton hitman scored his second England goal in Friday's win over Moldova and Gerrard is delighted for another Merseyside player to be representing his country.

"The only sour part of Friday night was the yellow card to Danny Welbeck," said  Gerrard.

"We're gutted because he's been a big player for us of late. He will be missed especially on the back of the Rooney injury and Daniel Sturridge being out.

"Rickie has made a big impact since he's come into the England squad. He is working really hard and is a credit to himself.

"He is a great example to any kids because he started off  at the bottom, worked his way right to the top and is taking his chances."

Gerrard's midfield partner Frank Lampard will win his 100th England cap tomorrow night in Kiev and the Liverpool skipper is thrilled  for his teammate.

"No one deserves it more than he does," Gerrard added.

"He has been tremendous for club and country.

"He has been a top player and hopefully I will be on the  pitch to share that moment with him because I have been with him all the way through.

"He is a good friend of mine and I can't wait for him to get  it."
