Unsettled Manchester City centre-half Joleon Lescott is wanted by both Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Roberto Mancini is willing to let the former Everton defender leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer, with Lescott keen to move for the regular first-team football which will boost his World Cup chances if England qualify for next summer's finals in Rio.

Villa want Lescott to provide leadership and experience to a youthful defence while the Merseysiders regard the 30-year-old as a replacement for Jamie Carragher, who is retiring at the end of the current campaign.

Lescott is not part of City's long-term plans with Mancini plotting an overhaul of his squad this summer as he seeks to improve on this year's performances.

He played in last week's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro but will not feature if he is not first-choice at his club and others return from injury.
