Liverpool will have to fight competition from Roma to land summer freebie Modibo Diakite.
Brendan Rodgers is in desperate need of more options at centre half and 26-year-old Diakite fits the bill.
The France-born star is out of contract in the summer and ready to walk out on Lazio so could join the Reds for nothing.
The chances of that happening looked unlikely as he neared an agreement with Napoli but as talkSPORT told you earlier this week, those negotiations have broken down.
It was thought that could allow Liverpool a second chance of signing him but now Roma have emerged as serious contenders in the chase.
According to reports in Italy, manager Aurelio Andreazzoli reckons Diakite would be the perfect addition to his defensive unit.
The move would also prevent the 6 foot 4 inch stopper from needing to leave Italy's capital. Although he would be forever vilified if he did leave Lazio for their fierce, same-city rivals.
