Liverpool could be set to challenge fierce rivals Manchester United for the signature of Angelo Ogbonna after sending scouts to keep an eye on the Italy international earlier this month.
The Merseyside club have held a long-term interest in the Torino defender, who revealed to talkSPORT this week that he was flattered by reported interest from United.
United have kept an eye on him - Alex Ferguson sent his son to watch him in action against Roma last weekend - but TuttoMercatoWeb claim their north west rivals also had scouts monitoring the centre-back during Torino's 2-2 draw at Bologna on April 6.
It's no secret that Liverpool will be prioritising the addition of new defenders in the summer, with Jamie Carragher set to retire.
The club have preferred to splash the cash on young players in recent years and Ogbonna, 24, would appear to fit the bill.
