Liverpool are ready to rival Arsenal in an attempt to sign 6ft 5" Sevilla centre-back, Federico Fazio, according to reports.
The 26-year-old is out of contract next summer and with Sevilla's reported financial difficulties, the big Argentine international looks almost certain to move on.
Fazio has been with Spanish giants Sevilla since January 2007 and although he has enjoyed his time in Spain he has been quoted suggesting it may be time to move on.
Arsenal have been recently linked with Fazio as they look to improve their leaky defence for next season and sources suggest they are considering a bid.
However with Jamie Carraghers retirement edging ever closer, Liverpool have joined the race for the centre-back.
Brendan Rodgers has expressed his desire to continue building his Liverpool side in the summer and Fazio is believed to be on his wish list.
Unfortunately for the two English giants they face strong competition from Italy and Germany according to the players agent, Ariel Kiperszmid.
Sevilla turned down bids from Germany for their man in January but it is almost a certainty he will be on the move this summer.
