Robbie Fowler was one of 40 cyclists who set off on the Standard Chartered Liverpool to London bike ride on Monday morning.

Raising money for the bank's 'Seeing is Believing' initiative, the Liverpool legend began the long journey from the Shankly Gates at Anfield before ending the 100m cycle in Kidderminster on Monday evening.

The ride is taking place over three days and will finish at the Standard Chartered headquarters in Central London on Wednesday.

The first day's route will see cyclists cross the river Mersey on the ferry before passing through Birkenhead and Chester Zoo.

It is hoped the cyclists' efforts, all Standard Chartered employees, will raise $100,000 and allow the bank to help eliminate avoidable blindness across the globe.

The bike ride is one of many fundraising events undertaken by Standard Chartered, which has committed to raising $100 million by 2020 for the programme, with the Bank matching all donations dollar for dollar until the target is met.

Known as 'God' among Liverpool supporters, Fowler said: 'It's an honour to be part of such an important event for Standard Chartered, and to join everyone else who has worked hard to take part in the ride.

'Seeing is Believing is a really worthy cause that looks to make a difference to peoples' lives across the world, and that's something I'm proud to be a part of.'
